SOUTH MAUI VOLUNTEERS

Join us every Monday morning from 7:30 -9:30am-- Meet at the north end of the Kihei Boat Ramp by the orange cones or look for the sign indicating where we are working that day.  You'll see us in the lime green VOLUNTEER vests at one of the Kamaole Beaches when we have a project going on at the dunes.

TRAIL NOTES:  It's already October and the wedge-tailed shearwater ('Ua'U Kani) population of chicks looks wonderfully healthy this year!  Sometimes, you can be lucky and see a chick peer out from a burrow.  We'll be banding chicks on the 23rd of October--come join us!  You may stay on the main paths to observe--remember that the burrows are fragile and we don't want to crush any of them.

Picture above was taken in late September.

On October 3, a group of 100 intermediate students came down to the trail and dunes to work for their SOS (Save Our Shores) program.   They will be weeding, removing invasive plant species, maintaining & clearing trail access paths, and picking up rubbish and cigarette butts.  The group arrived at 8:30 am and left at 11:15.  Thank you to these great young people for their service!
