More about us: South Maui Volunteers works under the guidance and direction of Maui County Parks, State DNLR, Planning Department, and the UH Coastal Hazard Specialist. In addition, there is an established 'Advisory Committee' made up of key members whose expertise and experience are relied upon to give input and valued suggestions on any of our projects: the committee members are highlighted below
Much of the work we accomplish happens in our Kihei beach parks. That puts us directly under the watchful eye of the Maui Parks Dept., specifically Mary Kielty, the Parks & Recreation Chief.
Some of our work centers on dunes or beaches adjacent to a beach park and that is the kuleana of Tara Owens and U.H. Sea Grant.
Kihei is the home base for all of the work and we engage with Maui County employees almost daily. Don Couch has had his finger on that pulse for many years and in different capacities and has done so much for Kihei.
Jeff and Cindy Kern are part of the lifeblood of our group and are the primary volunteers and leaders we have worked with for many years.
Grow Some Good is a key local volunteer group that grew up in Kihei, just as South Maui Volunteers did, and Rosa McAllister serves as board president of that great organization.
Lis and Bob Richardson are the coordinators for much of the work that South Maui Volunteers accomplish.
